Student Grants Program

Leo If_Then_edited.jpg

The GEF Student Grants Program offers funding of up to $1,000 to support dynamic GUSD students who want to launch inventive programs that will benefit their classmates or their school. The proposed project may be part of an existing school program or be a completely new endeavor. Previous programs have included creating a chess club, learning Python programming, and even building an escape room. This is a great opportunity for students to get creative, spread their wings, and take on a leadership position, all for the benefit of GUSD.

2026 Schedule

  • Monday, March 9, 2026 – Applications Due

  • March 9–13, 2026 – Shark Tank–Style Interviews

  • Tuesday, April 7, 2026 – Selected students receive checks at the District Board Meeting

Students may apply for up to $1,000.

  • Newly painted library sign – $300

Total Project Cost: $700

Yes. Your mentor must be a teacher, counselor, coach, or project advisor from your school.

What happens after I apply?

The GEF Student Grants Committee will review all applications and select semi-finalists.

All applicants will be notified by email. Semi-finalists will be invited to give a short Shark Tank–style presentation to the committee.

What is a Shark Tank–style presentation?

This is a fun, high-energy 3–5 minute pitch (similar to the TV show format) where you present:

  • A clear vision of your project

  • How it benefits your classmates and/or school

  • Visuals, music, and enthusiasm (encouraged!)

Have fun and be persuasive!

When will I find out if I’ve been selected?

All semi-finalists will be contacted by email. Award recipients will also be listed on the GEF website.

I’ve been selected—what happens next?

Award recipients will attend a Board of Education meeting where they will:

  • Receive their check

  • Receive a mandatory Evaluation Form

What is the Evaluation Form?

The Evaluation Form is due at the end of the school year and must explain:

  • How the funds were used

  • Any challenges encountered

  • The impact of the project on you, your classmates, and your school

By applying, you agree to submit the completed evaluation by May 29, 2026

Photos or videos documenting your project are strongly encouraged.

When must funds be used?

All funds must be spent and the Evaluation Form submitted by May 29, 2026, unless prior arrangements have been approved. Unspent funds must be returned to GEF.

Can I change my project after receiving the grant?

No. Funds must be used for the approved project.

What if I leave GUSD after receiving the grant?

Funds must be used within the Glendale Unified School District. If you leave the district, any unused funds must be returned.
