Teacher Grants Frequently Asked Questions

What is the GEF Teacher Grants Program?

The GEF Teacher Grants Program awards competitive grants to GUSD teachers who are seeking additional funding for classroom or school-wide projects, which can include field trips and instructional materials for professional development opportunities.

How much funding can I apply for?

The maximum amount is $1,000.

What kinds of projects qualify for a GEF Teachers Grant?

Your grant request must fall within one of GEF’s three focus areas: health and wellness, visual and performing arts, or science and technology. The project must also directly benefit GUSD students, enhancing their academic experiences.

Can my project be a new idea or could it be an already existing program?

New projects are accepted as well as support for existing projects.

When are the grant applications due?

Applications are due December 2, 2025 .

When will you announce the grant recipients?

All applicants will be notified of their grant status on December 16, 2025.  Those proposals that are selected to recieve funding will be invited to gather in the GEF office on January 20th to recieve their grant, and will be presented to the Board of Education at the board meeting that evening.

If chosen, when will I get the funds?

Checks will be presented before the January 20, 2026 GUSD Board of Education meeting at the District Office. Grant recipients will also receive a packet with their check which will include an end of the year/project evaluation form.

Is filling out the evaluation form necessary?

Absolutely. By filling out the evaluation form GEF learns what the funds were used for, any challenges that occurred when implementing the project, and how the project impacted not only your students but even your own teaching. By applying for this grant you are agreeing that you will complete this form, and then email or send it back to GEF by May 29, 2026.

If selected when would I be expected to utilize all of my funding?

All funds must be spent by Friday, May 29, 2026, unless other arrangements have been made. Any unspent funds must be returned back to GEF.

What if I am awarded a GEF Teachers Grant then come up with a better idea – can I change my project?

No.

What if I am awarded a grant, then I leave Glendale Unified for another school district – can I still use the funds in another district?

No, all funds must be spent within the Glendale Unified School District. Any unused money must be sent back to GEF.
